Day 2 area is within easy reach of Alnwick (approx 10km) and can be accessed from the A1. Day 1 – Edges Green (grid ref NY722688) The first day is to be run on a new map, which is being re-surveyed and drawn up by Rob McKenna. Edges Green is situated to the north of the Roman Wall and west of Housesteads - a World Heritage site. The area was used some time ago for a colour coded event, but is being combined with an adjacent area, Gibbs Hill, to provide an area suitable for an an event of this level. It is an area of mainly open moor land made up of of rough, sheep grazed pasture and undulating hills of varying runability. The rough pasture is generally fairly fast, but there are areas of reeds and marsh grass to hinder progress. Day 2 – Bewick Moor South (grid ref NU112215) The second day will be run on an area used for a few major events in the past. The existing map, last used in 2003, is being updated by Dave Caudwell for this event. Bewick Moor is an area of open moorland, lying between 120 and 250 meters above sea level. The area is generally very fast and runable at this time of the year. Ground cover is heather on the higher parts with grass and bracken on the lower slopes. The heather is managed and is of variable height, but only deep enough to restrict runnability in a few areas; the bracken will not have died away by the time of the event, but courses will be planned to aoid the worst parts. There is considerable rock and contour detail, including a number of areas where the technical difficulty is high. There are few paths, and as a result, the technical difficulty of courses for the younger juniors (also the Orange and Yellow colour coded courses) may be at the top end of the BOF guidelines for these courses. Courses : All standard BOF courses will be available. Courses on offer : Badge classes - JM/W2 to 4, JM5 S/M/L and JW5 S/L, M/W21 to 65L and S, M/W70 to 80L.
