F I N A L   D E T A I L S

 

Covid-19 :This event has been organised to comply with current guidance from the Government and BO with respect to the ongoing COVID-19 problems. Please follow any notices and directions from club officals, but more importantly try to keep in mind sensible social distancing, both in the parking area and also whilst competing.
 Additional information is required of competitors to allow NHS Test and Trace if a problems arises from the event. Pre-entry requires entrants to acknowledge that they must not attend if they or a member of their household has COVID-19 symptoms, or if they have been asked to isolate by NHS Test and Trace, and that they will abide by the Participant Code of Conduct at all times.
 
Cancellation :Due to the uncertainty of the ongoing COVID-19 problems, the event may have to be cancelled at short notice. Please check this website before travelling on the day. Any fees collected will be refunded in full.
 
Travel :The event will be signed from Wolsingham, Co.Durham, at the junction of the A689 and the minor road running south to Hamsterley, grid ref NZ074372, nearest post code DL13 3DD. On leaving the Hamsterley road at grid ref NZ073356, the road becomes narrow for about 1.5km, please show courtesy to residents coming the other way.
 Parking is not in Hamsterley Forest - please do not make your way there.
 
Parking :Parking is along a rough track leading up to the moorland and will be close to registration, start and finish. Access to the track is through a gate at grid ref NZ072337, nearest postcode DL13 3NT. The gate should be manned to avoid contamination by competitors.
 
Registration :Will be open from 10.00 - 12.00 strictly for enquiries only - no entry on the day.
 
Starts :from 10.30 - 12.30, courses close 2.30.
 There will be 2 starts. Start A - Yellow, Orange and Green courses - follow track south from gate for about 100m. Start B - L.Green, Blue and Brown courses - turn left at gate and follow wall for about 100m. The gate should be manned to avoid contamination by competitors.
 A maximum of only one starter per minute is permitted from each start location. Queuing for starts will be marked at 2m intervals - please respect social distancing and any instructions given by event officials. A hand sanitiser unit will be placed adjacent to the maps - please use this before taking your map.
 
Courses :

Start A - Yellow, Orange, Green. Start B - Light Green, Blue, Brown.

 

Note there will be a short taped section on the Yellow course marked on the map as a dashed line.

 Closing date for pre-entries will be Thursday 1.10.20.
 
Fees :Seniors (aged 21 and over) - £8;    Juniors (aged 20 and under) + students - £2;    Schoolchildren (up to age 16) - £1.
 The preferred method of payment is by bank transfer, although an envelope with the correct fees and details noted on it can be dropped off at registration on the day.
 
EPS :This event will use the SportIdent electronic system. You must have your own SI 'dibber' to enter this competition as there will be none for hire on the day.
 Control boxes will be enabled for SIAC cards to operate in touch-free mode, but please note that you will need to punch the old-fashioned way at the Start and Finish.
 
Map :Cabin Hill, Doctors Gate & Gull Quarry - Scale 1:10000, 5m contours, map size A4, drawn by D.Caudwell 2007, updated to ISOM2017 and minor mods by R.McKenna for this event. Area last used March 2019. Maps will have courses overprinted on waterproof paper - if you require further protection please supply your own bag. Yellow course maps will be available from registration - all other course maps will be issued at the start. A blank map will be available to view at registration and in the start lanes.
 
Terrain :The terrain comprises open managed heather moorland of variable runability, with several old quarries providing intricate contour detail. The moor is mostly a mosaic of burnt and short heather but there are patches of deeper heather in the quarried areas and lower slopes. The area is generally fairly fast.
 
Safety :Please avoid touching control units where possible and maintain social distancing at al times. Doctors Gate is an exposed moor lying at about 350m above sea level. Please come prepared - cagoules may be compulsory and whistles should be carried. Lone competitors are advised to leave contact details at registration.
 
Control desc :Control descriptions will be will be on the front of the map and will be in written format for Yellow and Orange courses, all the other courses will be in pictorial format. Facilities :Sorry, but there will be no toilets or water at this event. First aid at registration.
 
Dogs :There will be NO dogs allowed at this event as there will be sheep grazing nearby and on the moor.
 However, competitors with dogs may be able to park before the track leading up to the moor - they must not bring them past the St John's Hall junction. The head gamekeeper for the Estate lives in the cottages at the bottom of the track leading up to the moor.
 
Results :There will be NO individual split times available on the day. Full results will be posted on the NN website - www.northern-navigators.org.uk
