
NORTHERN NAVIGATORS Invite you to a 'Come and Try It' event at Chopwell Wood Sunday, 14th September 2008 Travel : Chopwell is approx 10km south west of Gateshead along the Derwent Valley. Follow signs to Chopwell Wood from Rowlands Gill. The event will be signed from the entrance to wood at High Spen. Parking : at main forest car park. Start, finish, registration : from 10.00 – 12.00. Courses : This event is primarily aimed at beginners, but all are welcome. Provisionally there will be four courses on offer: 2 x yellow (approx 1.6k, technically easy with controls on paths), 1 x orange (approx 2.5k, slightly harder with controls just off paths) a short score, utilising all the yellow and orange controls plus a few others. Try as many of the courses as you like for the one fee. The woods two permanent courses will also be on offer. Fees : Seniors (M/W21 and over) £1.00, Juniors (M/W20 and under) £0.50. Map : 1:5000 with 5m contours (A4/5), specially prepared for this event by Rob McKenna with courses overprinted. Terrain Typical Forestry Commission woodland, with a good track and path network. Facilities : Toilets and orange squash may be available at the Forest classroom (approx 500m away). The Forest Classroom is run by The Friends of Chopwell and hopefully they may be at hand to offer advice and information on the wood. It has a good display of wildlife and things to do with the wood.
