E-tags will be available free of charge on the day, but competitors will be charged for any loss - lost or non-returned E-tags will be charged at £60. Unlike previous systems the E-tag is worn much like a wrist watch and needs to be passed within about 10-15cm of the control box, there is a small red LED on the E-tag which flashes for about 10 seconds indicating a successful pass. It will be your responsibility to check - do not try to pass the control too fast. There is no clear station for this system. The E-tag is cleared at the start control and stopped at the finish. There will be a sample control near registration for you to see the E-tag in action. Instruction in the use of the system will be available on the night.|
|Map :||Course 'A' - 1:5000 with 5m contours (A4), all other courses 1:4000, drawn by DUOC, to current ISSOM2007 (sprint) standards. Apart from the scale, the main difference for sprint type maps is the portrayal of buildings, un-crossable boundaries and OOB areas. Maps will be overprinted with course on waterproof paper - if you require further protection then please supply your own bag. Courses A, B, C and E have back to back maps. A sample map will be on display at registration.|
|Terrain :||Typical old city centre type terrain, with many narrow streets, some narrow passageways and steps. This combined with some up and down terrain running along the banks of the Wear (but avoiding those paths closest to the river). There may be light traffic on some of the minor roads. The main thoroughfare through Durham which crosses Framwellgate Bridge, the A690 (Leazes Road), will be marked as out of bounds and must not be crossed directly (for safety reasons) - there are a few footbridges and underpasses that can be used. Competitors should exercise some caution when navigating the small alleyways and steps which can be rather slippy.|
|Control desc :||Control descriptions will be on the front of the map. They will be in pictorial format for courses A to D and written format for course E. They are available to download here. Click here for a copy of the IOF control descriptions.|
|Facilities :||There is a small public toilet to the NE of Palace Green which should be open and there are many cafes and bars near the registration area, but please try to go before you come to the event. There will be an area to leave bags / clothing etc. next to registration.|
|Dogs :||Dogs will be allowed but under close control. Please clean up after your dog.|
|Results :||Full results will be posted on the NN website - www.northern-navigators.org.uk
If you require a paper copy of the results, please leave your details at registration with 50p to cover postage.
|Cautionary notice :||Saturday evening in the centre of Durham is normally quite popular with late night revellers which are generally well behaved. However competitors are advised to avoid any direct confrontation with the general public.|
