	NORTHERN NAVIGATORS
Invite you to the Annual Boxing Day Charity Score Event at
	Durham University Estates
	Saturday, 26th December 2009

Note - the venue for this event has changed from previous years due to
ongoing problems with the Forestry Commission and access to Chopwell Wood.

Travel : The venue is located on the south side of the City of Durham and can be accessed from the A177.
It will be 'O' signed from the A177 (South Road) at grid ref NZ272410

Parking : Parking and registration will use the Collingwood College car park.
From the traffic lights at the junction of the A177 (South Road) and Quarryhouse Lane
go up the hill travelling south away from Durham towards Howlands Park and Ride.
At the top of the hill there is a junction to the left leading to the Botanical Gardens,
this is Hollingside Lane. Take this turning and almost immediately turn right towards
Collingwood College - the car park is on the left as you go up and round the bend.
Howlands Park and Ride car park will be closed on Boxing Day but all of the 'off street'
parking in Durham City will be free on the day.

Registration :	from 10.00 till 10.50.

Starts : There will be a 5-10 minute walk to the start area which will be off Hollingside lane,
opposite the Botanical Gardens - with a mass start at 11.00.
The route to the start will be signed from the college car park.
Maps will be issued 5 minutes before the start.

Courses : One hour score event – 30 controls.
Collect as many controls as you can, in any order, in the given time limit.
Standard 'O' kites and pin punches with control cards are to be used.
Controls will be numbered consecutively 101 - 130, so punch 101 in box 1 on your control card etc.

Fees : All proceeds are to go to a local charity - The Great North Air Ambulance
Suggested donations – seniors £2, juniors £1 - or whatever you can afford, please give generously.

Map : 1:5000 with 5m contours (A4), drawn by Dave Caudwell 2003, revised for this event.
The map has been drawn to ISSOM standards (suitable for sprint events).
The main difference apart from the scale is the portrayal of buildings.
Maps will be overprinted with course and bagged, but not sealed.
A sample map will be on display at registration.

Terrain : Quite a mixture of terrain from urban, around the University grounds,
to the delightful open mature deciduous woodland of Houghall Woods.
The woods can be fairly demanding both technically and physically, with some steep slopes
which at this time of the year can be a bit slippy - take care.
Houghall is well used by local residents - please try to be courteous.

Facilities :	Unfortunately there are no public facilities near the parking area,
but we hope to be able to provide a very limited toilet tent at the start.
Please try to go before you come to the event.

Results : Full results will be posted on the NN website - www.northern-navigators.org.uk
If you require a paper copy of the results, please leave your details at registration with 40p to cover postage.
